Project overview

The Mandurah Estuary Bridge project, executed by long term client Georgio Group, involved the construction of new bridge piers within the estuary, addressing both environmental and engineering challenges. This project required careful planning and execution to ensure structural integrity while minimising environmental disruption.

Scope of work

Design

  • 7.5m sheet piles

Works:

  • Temporary sheet pile installation and removal
  • Structural wall for a temporary reclamation pad on both the eastern and western banks of the estuary to facilitate the construction of the new bridge piers and fishing jetty.
  • Support for the existing Mandurah Bridge abutment to allow extension and integration of the current drainage system with the new bridge

Challenges

  • Water ingress and potential land slip of the reclamation pad during installation and removal of the sheet piles
  • Low bridge clearances to remove sheet piles

Outcome

The project successfully created a stable foundation for the bridge pier, allowing for the safe and efficient construction of the new bridge. The reclamation pad and sheet piling installation ensured minimal environmental impact, while the drainage system enhancements contributed to the long-term durability of the bridge infrastructure.

Equipment used
